Railway infrastructure register

<li>As part of the second stage of rail reform 2, Switzerland adopted the EU Directive on interoperability of the railway system. This obliges every country to keep a railways infrastructure register and to regularly update it. It includes all relevant technical and operational parameters for the infrastructure. 

The register may be consulted by the public (subject to an official request) and is intended for all those who require information on the railway infrastructure. It offers a uniform, standardised description of the infrastructure. 

The register is particularly important for railway transportation companies: before they pass over a stretch of the network, they must ensure their rolling stock (trains) comply with the technical requirements of the section of track.

Confirmation of this compatibility is an unavoidable requirement for vehicles to be granted access to specific routes. 

Status of production

Version of the application: 2026.1.0 (rolled out on 05.05.2026)

Current status: No known problems.
